UnionPay hire in Americas targets growth
(16 June 2017 – China) UnionPay International has replaced its current regional head for the Americas, Miriam Park with Chen Jing, who was the firms General Manager of Products Department.
CEO of UnionPay International, Cai Jianbo, said the change was made based on “the company's business development and talent cultivation.”
“We hope that, under the leadership of Chen Jing, UnionPay will reach in-depth cooperation with more mainstream institutions in the US, further expanding UnionPay's acceptance scope, enhancing acceptance quality, making new breakthroughs in card issuance, and promoting UnionPay innovative payment products and services in the market,” he said.
According to a statement, UnionPay cards are accepted at almost all ATMs in the US, while 80 percent of local merchants accepts UnionPay credit cards. The firm said that in Canada, 90 percent of ATMs and more than 100,000 merchants accept UnionPay cards, while a number of daily spending merchants have supported UnionPay mobile QuickPass, enabling cardholders to pay by taping their mobile phones at the QuickPass terminals.
Meanwhile, UnionPay is making progress in Latin America, expanding its acceptance network to scenic spots, department stores, duty-free stores and restaurants favored by tourists. About 90 percent of ATMs in Mexico accept UnionPay cards for cash withdrawal, while the same number of merchants in Peru and 70 percent in Brazil and Ecuador accept UnionPay cards for payment.
